After numerous requests for the formation of a new grotto in Western Colorado, the first organizational meeting of the Colorado Western Slope Grotto was held on July 8, 2006. The meeting was held at a campground near Willow Peak on the White River Plateau above Glenwood Springs, Colorado and despite the miserable weather conditions, a dozen cavers came out in support of the new grotto. An initial executive committee was organized at the first meeting and a schedule for future meetings was set up. The grotto has been meeting every month since then and has been busy oraganizing itself and building its membership. We now have all of our paper work ready to send to the NSS and will be doing so in the near future.
We look forward to the future of the Colorado Western Slope Grotto and are hopeful we become an official chapter of the NSS. Promoting the goals of the NSS and conserving the caves that we all know and love is the main goal.
